Seva Senior ServicesService with Gratitude
Our story

A family that cares for its own.

Seva did not start as a business plan. It started with our founder’s mother-in-law, living with Alzheimer’s and slowly withdrawing at home, and the room full of people that brought her back to life.

Nearly 10 years later, that same promise runs everything we do: no senior should spend their last chapter alone.

The beginning

The day her mother-in-law started singing again.

The woman at the center of this story is Poonam Datta’s mother-in-law, who is also the grandmother who helped raise our CEO, Chirag.

Seva began the way it still runs today: as a family caring for the people it loves. Founder and President Poonam Datta spent years caring for both her own mother and her mother-in-law. When her mother-in-law began living with Alzheimer’s, Poonam watched her slowly withdraw at home, and she knew that isolation was quietly taking the life out of her.

Poonam is an electrical engineer from Georgia Tech, and she spent 21 years in a corporate career before any of this. Caring for her own family showed her how much difference the right support makes, and how few places were set up to provide it. She decided she could do more good in this work than in the one she had, and left to do it.

What she opened instead was a day center, a place with people, routine, and purpose, and she brought her mother-in-law there. Something changed. She started singing again. She recognized old friends. She looked forward to going every single morning. She had found a second wave of life.

That was the moment Seva was born, and it is still the promise behind everything the company does. In January 2017, that first center opened in Atlanta.

“No senior should spend their last chapter alone.”

The promise Seva was built on, after watching one grandmother come back to life
The next generation

He came in as an intern and stayed.

Raised by the woman who started it all.

Chirag Datta, Poonam’s son and Seva’s CEO, grew up in that same home. The grandmother whose journey started all of this is the woman who helped raise him, so he had seen up close what good care can give a family, and what its absence takes away.

He started at Seva as an intern, and what kept him was the thanks. Members and their families were genuinely grateful for small things, a ride arranged or a form sorted out, and there are not many lines of work where you get blessings for the help you give.

He stayed. He joined properly in 2019 and saw quickly that families needed far more than a day program. They needed care in the home. They needed a way to be paid and supported for caring for their own loved ones. They needed help reaching seniors well beyond Atlanta.

Chirag led Seva’s expansion into home care, structured family caregiving, and, more recently, Seva Home Care Illinois, growing one senior day center into a full continuum of care for hundreds of families.

What we believe

Seva means service with gratitude.

Four things we will not compromise on, whichever door a family comes through.

Dignity

Elders are honored, not managed

Caring for elders is honorable work. Every person who walks through our door is somebody's mother, father, or grandparent.

Family first

We treat your family like ours

The same standard Poonam held for her own mother-in-law is the standard we hold for every member and every home.

Honesty

We tell you the truth about options

If Medicaid would serve you better than private pay, we say so. If we are not the right fit, we say that too.

Belonging

Nobody should sit alone all day

Community is not an activity on a schedule. It is the reason the day center exists at all.

Come see the room she sang in.

Call us and a person from our family will answer. We will tell you honestly which of our services fits, or whether something else would serve your family better.
